Goblin

I finally got around to reformatting and updating my old files so that they can be opened in 2016 software (I was literally using software from 2001 before this).  I've also formatted the old GIFs to Excel such that they can be opened as spreadsheets, downloaded and printed which people have been begging for for years.  I'm still updating some histories up to date from 2009 when I was last active and am making some brand new ones from scratch as I have a ton more data than I used to. If you see any definite errors please let me know and i'll look into it  i've put my own marks about questionable scores in the far right column.

Goodness, I don't remember seeing it this high in a very long time. 

Which schedule? The game schedule is same as this year just opposite home/away except we play Crosby at Crosby again I think.
To everyone moaning and in despair that it's the end of WO-S after this season just remember we still won 9 games and played 14 (which only a handful of teams around here can say), knocked off a 12-0 #1 ranked Jasper, held a State Champion Newton team to 21 points, made it to the State Quarterfinals for the 8th year in a row (the record is a tie with La Marque who did it 9 times 1992-2000 and Converse Judson who did it from 1988-1996) and are set up to be just as good if not better next year. The end of the world is not here just because we didn't make it to a state championship.
Cuero beat PG by 12 points and only beat Silsbee by 5. We beat Silsbee by 3 in non-monsoon conditions. It very easily could have been WO-S or Silsbee, or even Jasper there today instead of Cuero. There was no truly dominant team in 4A Division 2 this year. Parity actually makes for more exciting seasons and football in general rather than just having one obvious favorite that runs ragged over everyone.

WO-S has actually had the highest on and off since surpassing Odessa Permian back in 2004. They just hit the arbitrary 500 games played mark this season which is the general standard for when it actually counts. It’s not their fault they didn’t start playing in 1923 like Highland Park but the 500 minimum and percentage is a way to compromise and compare different aged programs fairly.   
If you really want an equivalent between the two then compare how long it took each program to get to 406 wins as the vast majority of new programs generally do extremely poorly in their early years with a few exceptions. It took from 1923-1978 for HP to hit win #406 (55+ seasons), 1977-2018 for WO-S (42 seasons.)  
I’ll stop beleaguering the point but I am a historian and that’s what I do lol. I realize most people don’t care.

*eyeroll*  Ok since 1985 WOS 354 wins, HP 352 wins... you can pick and choose any window you want to make your point but the winning percentage overall isn't gonna change. WO-S would have to go 0-26 over the next 3 seasons for HP to catch up with them in percentage and that's not gonna happen.

I think that one team who is expected to go far in playoffs may not because, HJ may have something to say about that with their coach being back, and they were a young team too and hungry.

All this talk of previous wins against us or our playoff win vs you mean virtually nothing.  The only thing that it gives is the “they can’t beat us” or “we can’t get past them” mystique.  You can even throw out that game a few weeks ago.  These are both 2 different teams now.  I have questions still in my head for both sides not only pertaining to this game but anymore that the winner will play.  Naturally I want to see my Tigers win but I really want a good clean game with no injuries so that the winner will be in good shape for the next week.

I'll have to admit as most if you were honest,that after the first 5 games ,a quarter finals game was not in the cards for WOS this year.What a great coaching job this staff has done with these kids.Silsbee has overcome their start also, so it is fitting this game has happened.

Jasper scored 34 against WO-S the first game they played... Silsbee scored 21. The WO-S defense has stepped up. Silsbee hasn't reached a Semifinal since 1977, WO-S is aiming for their 5th consecutive Semi. Statewide attention will be a factor here and WO-S has been there done that a dozen times plus. Silsbee hasn't. This will be the biggest game in Silsbee football history in the past 40+ years while it will be business as usual for WO-S. The only thing I worry about is WO-S having a let down after such a huge win over Jasper. No prediction on this end.

U had to bring that up. We had alot of talent that year. All state players, highly ranked, I even believe undefeated thru reg season. But they got cocky. Thought silsbee was a cakewalk. I hated that game.

Nope... LaMarque made 9 in a row 1992-2000... WO-S beat them in the 2000 Quarters to essentially end that dynasty, and off the top of my head I'm pretty sure Converse Judson did more than that but they were playing in a weak Region 4 with South Texas during that time.

WOS did a good job clogging the runs between the tackles too. The Mustangs coaching staff has done a whale of a job with their kids. I got the impression early in the season that the normal fire was missing from that group and they had it in spades tonight. That's not meant to take anything away from the Jasper staff and players. We were right there and just couldn't get it done...

And win #100 for CT. 

Include Gilmer in this also. 4-6 to end the season . Losses to Paris, Carthage, Newton, Pleasant Grove, Pittsburg all still playing and Liberty Eylau who lost just last week. Now we get the rematch with defending champ PG. We are as healthy as we have been all year and playing our best ball. We shall see what happens Friday night!!!

I guess there is no Orange Community support that comes from you? I graduated from LCM, I support my Bears but in football I’d always support WOS to win the game unless they are playing LCM. I think you would be surprised how many WOS fans that actually live on the other side of the fence. I mean other then football WOS struggles to beat LCM in other sports Baseball, Softball, Basketball. Y’all dont have a soccer program. Our Band is the best in Setx. So y’all have a good football history and past teams. I support Orange teams that include Orangefield. I think to sit here and say you have to pick a side is really unnecessary. My father graduated from WOS and My mother Graduated from LCM I guess that puts me in the middle.
 

I've been pretty quiet this week so far, but I will say this: Over thirty years of history means absolutely nothing this week. This Jasper team doesn't have that "here we go again" mindset that has hurt us in the past. I truly believe that this is one of the best, if not the best, team Jasper's ever had. We've played like a championship team from the start like WOS often does.
JasperDAWG and I have seen a lot of the same football over the years and I also have a ton of respect for the Mustangs. Both of these teams right at this moment are very good and it's gonna be a classic. I think the winner of this game just might win it all. Let's play a good, clean game and see who is left standing when it's all over. I can't wait!

I wouldn’t expect you to let off the gas in the 4th quarter....that’s not a very good strategy for playing catch up.

A doubleheader with PN-G or triple header with West Brook at NRG would be amazing. The entirety of SETX would be there.
